New Flats

Had a look at the new flats at Firepool that seem to have been under construction for some time now.

The design is actually quite modern in appearance and Taunton has always been sadly lacking when it comes to modern apartment design.   The name of the development “Waterside House” seems a bit boring though.

I’m wondering why these flats were built in such a “cut off” part of the town.     There do not appear to be any local amenities in the area such as shops, restaurants or even a pub but presumably the plan is for these to follow at a later stage.

I guess they are only 5 minutes walk from the station and 5 minutes drive from the M5 once the new road is linked up with existing roads, but they are currently cut off by the river tone and the canal.

Mural

More from my recent trip to sunny Bournemouth.

Two pensioners view the tiled mural on the wall of the underpass that connects the Pier to the Gardens.

Each of these tiles apparently represents a life lost to AIDS.

They certainly added a touch of colour to an otherwise dull underpass wall.
